Learn about scanning photos, scrapbook pages and more!!!
Scanning photos is not the only thing your flatbed photo scanner can do. There are other things like scanning your scrapbook pages, precious documents or memorabilia, and even creating pictures with your scanner.
How to Scan Photos
Most scanners come with very easy instructions on how to scan photos. The most common type of scanner is a flatbed scanner. You simple place your photos on the glass, open up the software that your scanner came with and hit scan. For the majority of us, there is no need to use all the advances settings your scanner may come with. Scanning photos yourself is a great way to save some money. The down side to that is depending on how many pictures you have, your time will be involved and I know how precious that is to you.
No Time to Scan
If you don’t have the time for scanning photos yourself, then you can find a company near you that will do this for you. Many places will send you a box to put them in and you send your pictures , they scan them and send them back when they are all done with a CD. If you have boxes and boxes of pictures, then this might be the way to go. If you do send your pictures out, I would take the time to go through and organize them before hand so that when they are on the CD they will be in the order that you want them in. This will save you time organizing them on your computer.
Converting slides to CD
If you have reels or boxes of slides taking over your closets and storage places, then you should look into a slide scanner. My mom inherited many reels of slides from her parents and was faced with what to do with them. Bringing out all the "stuff" that goes along with slides is such a hassle. It would be much easier to just pop a CD in and sit and watch your pictures from the TV. If you only have a few slides, then I would definitely have a company do it for you. It would not be worth the expense of purchasing your own scanner. However, I highly recommend you do something with them soon. Those memories just don't do any good sitting in a box. Get those pictures out and enjoy them.
Scanning Scrapbook Pages
Yes, you can scan your traditional scrapbook pages also. Even if your scanner is not a large format scanner, you can still do this by using photo stitch software. Once I made the switch to digital, I was faced with a few traditional albums that I had started but were not yet completed. So the big question was, do I complete them traditional or switch them over to digital? With the stitch software, it made it possible for me to scan the entire page and continue to work on them digitally. I can honestly say that this saved me a lot of time!
